Stephanie L. Franks
The work of Stephanie L. Franks is a search for relationships of color and form that feel true. She may begin with a perceived motif, but as she finds her way, recognizable imagery can be left behind. In her paintings and collages, color leads her process.
Stephanie L. Franks lives and works in New York City. She has shown extensively in the US and internationally, at spaces including Berry Campbell Gallery, Jason McCoy, National Academy Museum, the Painting Center, New York Studio School, New Bedford Art Museum, Paul Thiebaud in San Francisco, the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery at Haverford College, Higashi Hiroshima Museum in Japan, and the Royal Academy in London. She has past and upcoming solo exhibitions at the Bowery Gallery. Awards include a New York Foundation for the Arts Grant and residencies at Yaddo, the Djerassi Foundation, St. Margaret’s Bay, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She has taught at Pratt Institute, Parsons, and Chautauqua Institute. She received her BA from Barnard College and her MFA at Queens College, and studied at Yale Norfolk and the New York Studio School.
