MaryKate Maher

MaryKate Maher works in sculpture and collage. Her practice is rooted in an enduring interest in landscape, geological phenomenon, and improvised forms of site-markings used to navigate unknown landforms. In her sculptural works, Maher gravitates towards elements that have been arranged in an uneasy truce.  Relationships between elements are symbiotic yet full of tension and unresolved conflict.  In her collages, the focus is on the compression of light and space. Gradients play with the viewer’s sense of volume and dimension. Forms and themes repeat like fragments of a visual grammar.

MaryKate Maher is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and lives in Brooklyn, New York. Her work has been exhibited at Gold/Scopophilia, NJ; A.I.R. Gallery, NY; Hesse Flatow, NY; Tiger Strikes Asteroid, NY; Spring/Break Art Show, NY; The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, PA; Triangle Arts Association, NY; Franconia Sculpture Park, MN, with international exhibitions at Kunstwerk Carlshutte, Germany and Takt Berlin/Leipzig, Germany.
