Iona Fromboluti
Nature and perception have long been the subject of Iona Fromboluti’s paintings. She has recently been making abstract mixed-media works, in which fragments of perceptual imagery, sketched or painted, using ink, watercolor or marker, may be incorporated along with a range of papers, dry media, and paint. While these collage-based works can hint at the rhythms of nature surrounding her upstate New York studio, they are mixtures of a kind of mental landscape created through improvisations of relationships, in space, edge, color, texture, and shape.
Iona Fromboluti was born in New York City. She has had solo exhibitions at Denise Bibro Fine Art in New York; the More Gallery and Gross McCleaf Galleries in Philadelphia; and Galerie Darthea Speyer in Paris. Public collections include the Butler Institute in Youngstown, Ohio, the Asheville Art Museum, and the Pew Charitable Trust. Her work has been discussed in Art in America, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and other publications. She has a degree from the Tyler School of Art and is a Professor Emerita at Pratt Institute.
