Cuyler Remick’s work is the product of constraint and choice coupled with impulse and reflection. Each piece starts with an initial set of constraints which are anchored to fundamental painting elements such as color, line, shape, texture and overlay. The resulting painting documents a series of thought and actions, where each decision creates new elements to respond to – a balanced play of control and chance. The by-product of this process will evoke ideas and references outside of the work itself, but these arise organically, without a preconceived plan.
Cuyler Remick lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. His works have been exhibited at 4am Gallery, Washington Art Gallery, among others. He has participated in residencies such as VCCA residency and Weir Farm. He holds an MFA from the Yale School of Art and a BS from Cornell University.
