Mepaintsme is the pseudonym for a North Carolina based artist whose dense collages depict nightmarish visions and explore themes of fear and paranoia as representations of a rapidly increasing collective societal anxiety.
Culled from the artist's original drawings and fragmented remains of old comics, children books, and pulp magazines, the collages loosely narrate stories of figures terrorized by monsters, bloodthirsty murderers and ghosts. The artist sees his work as a vehicle for tapping into intense emotions like danger, evil, and pain, whether the threat is real or imagined.
Mepaintsme lives and works in Asheville, NC. He has exhibited his work in group exhibitions at the Upstairs Artspace in Tryon, NC; Perogi 2000 in Brooklyn; and CRG Gallery in New York. Mepaintsme holds a BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He currently curates @mepaintsme on Instagram which has been praised for its idiosyncratic approach to curation by such art world notables as Jerry Saltz, The New York Times, The London Paint Club, and The Museum of Contemporary Painting.
