Lizz Freeman makes thread paintings and textile sculptures primarily utilizing second hand and salvaged materials. Sylvie in the Living Room is a part of Freeman’s current series which explores the creative process, experimenting with technique and introspection. The pieces involve many hours, hyper focused on a small area, sewing machine needle moving at lightning speed. This exacting eye and intention engages the artist’s presence in every moment of creation. These images are meditations on time, identity, and motherhood. The salvaged materials used hold onto the remembrance of the frailty of the environment in our current, collective moment.
Lizz Freeman lives and works in New Orleans, LA. She is primarily self taught and began exhibiting her work at the age of 15 at MARS Artspace in Phoenix, AZ.
