Gouache and watercolor on paper

French artist Aurélie Salavert conveys her thoughts, feelings, and memories into pictures that feel as if they were buried in our own subconscious. Her watercolors, gouaches and drawings speak to all of us in a childlike clarity, the kind of clarity a person can only experience in dreams. Salavert’s images are understandable, but their meaning remains open. As stated by Stéphane Calais “She is looking for something, at times she finds something, and when she doesn’t, we’re happy being lost with her.”
Aurélie Salavert lives and works in Brussels. She graduated from the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Marseille in 1990. In 1992, she received a grant from the DRAC Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Ministry of Culture. She has had solo exhibitions at Alice Mogabgab, Brussels; the Galerie Athanor in Marseille, and The Calvet Museum in Avignon. In 2008, she began her collaboration with the Galerie Aliceday from Brussels. Her work is included in the collections of the Fond Régional d’Art Contemporain (Paris) and The Fond National d’Art Contemporain (France) and in numerous private collections in Europe and the United States.
