Marlies Neugebauer's ceramic sculptures are captivating in their exploration of opposing concepts of order and disorder. Tensions between perfection and imperfection, reality and fantasy, and life and death present a scene of coexistence across her body of work. Neugebauer is fascinated by oppositions between different worlds and seeks to bring them together in her art, finding balance in a new created reality. She explores through abstraction, using color, shape, and material. Her approach to creating graphic compositions and working in a collage is aimed at creating something new out of chaos. Chance occurrences in this reordering are encouraged in the midst of deliberate choices. An open responsiveness to the coincidences that emerge during the creative process.
