Vadis Turner transforms domestic materials into new forms. She manipulates textiles and other elements, allowing them to transcend their intended function, contradict their structural nature, and betray their traditional gender association. Resisting categorization, the works occupy spaces between textile, painting, craft, and sculpture.

Vadis Turner’s first solo museum exhibition, Tempest, was presented at the Frist Art Museum, Nashville, in 2017. Her next exhibition will be at the Huntsville Museum of Art in 2022. Turner’s work has been shown at museums and institutions including the Brooklyn Museum, ICA Portland, Andy Warhol Museum, Minnesota Museum of American Art, and Cheekwood Museum. She has work in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum, 21C Museum Hotel, Kentucky Arts and Crafts Museum, and Hunter Museum of American Art, among others. Turner was awarded the Joan Mitchell Painters and Sculptors Grant in 2016. Residencies include Yaddo, the Museum of Arts & Design, and Hambidge Center. Selected press includes Artforum, New York Times, Wallpaper*, Elle Magazine, Vanityfair.com, Observer, Artnet, and White Hot Magazine. Turner received a BFA and MFA from Boston University. She is represented by Geary in New York and Zeitgeist Gallery in Nashville.
