In Residence

Staged in a Tribeca loft and open by appointment, In Residence features paintings by Michael Berryhill, JJ Manford, and Karla Wozniak alongside ceramic sculptures by Jaye Kim, Elisa Soliven, and Shino Takeda. Curated by Lisha Bai, founder of Studio Archive Project.
All three painters included in In Residence playfully address their chosen medium as a subject. They paint interiors decorated with paintings; make paintings of paintings being painted; and take pleasure in referencing and remixing tropes from painting history. Many of their pictures have obvious layers of color and mark-making that foreground the processes by which they were constructed.
Accompanying these playfully meta paintings are painterly hand built ceramic sculptures. These organic and biomorphic creations adorn tabletops throughout the residential space of the loft and sit in conversation with the paintings, echoing the interiors and still life objects depicted in many of the works.
