Elisa Lendvay plays with paper maché, wood, wire, aluminum, gouache, chalk, found object, acrylic medium, copper, and clay, in her expressively charged sculptures. In her pieces the artist hopes to engage the viewer with a certain visual poetry that is viscerally contemplative and points to a physical psychological interconnectedness that has to do with the body and cosmic landscape as interior, in symbolic forms and orbiting structures.
The pieces have recurring shapes and forms that relate to structures in nature and the body and daily consumption in addition to cosmological space and mapping time, which is always in the backdrop. There are torso fan shapes, arched forms that convey head space or leaf like forms - palm fronds and spines, things that are growing upward or in contained spaces, surviving. Converging shapes and forms that convey a sort of internal space, that also have elements of external places.
